This document aims to outline issues related to case management service provision in the Scheme. Feedback on this document can be sent to Dianne Croker, Senior Project Officer.

The Authority has revised the current Part 1 of the LTCS Guidelines relating to the eligibility criteria for participation is the Scheme in accordance with the recent legislative amendments for the Lifetime assessment of children. The Guidelines also include certification that the medical specialist completing the medical certificate as part of the application form as examined the injured person and has seen the FIM or WeeFIM score sheet where applicable.

LTCSA Guideline Amendments

Amendments to the Lifetime Care and Support Guidelines were published in the New South Wales Government Gazette on 25 September 2009.
The following Parts have been amended, and can be accessed on the 'Guidelines-Policies' page of this site:

  • Part 1  - Eligibility Criteria
  • Part 5  - Treatment, rehabilitation and care needs assessment
  • Part 6  - Reasonable and necessary decision making in the Lifetime Care and Support Scheme
  • Part 7  - Treatment and rehabilitation services
  • Part 14 - Home modifications
  • Part 15 - Artificial limb services (New)

All parts of the Guidelines have been circulated to major stakeholders and comment also sought from subscribers of the E-News through previous newsletters during 2009.

All Guidelines have been endorsed by the Lifetime Care and Support Advisory Council.

A new version of the Care Needs Assessment form has been released and can now be accessed from the Procedures for Requesting Services page.


New projects funded by Lifetime Care and Support Authority - August 2008

To assist the Lifetime Care and Support Authority ensure participants in the Scheme continue to receive best practice treatment, rehabilitation and attendant care services a grant round was announced in early 2008. Thirty nine applications were received totalling nearly four million dolars.

All applications were reviewed by a panel and were evaluated against the criteria published in the information package. Applications that met the criteria were sent for external review by experts in the relevant field.

The assessment process has now been completed with the LTCSA approving funding of seven projects:

New Equipment Request Forms and Procedures

The Lifetime Care and Support Authority (LTCSA) and EnableNSW have been working collaboratively to develop Common Equipment Prescription Guidelines for use by clinicians prescribing equipment for people with disabilities.

The forms, and further information can be accessed on the Procedures for Requesting Services page.


2009 Workshops

The Lifetime Care and Support Authority runs workshops for staff from rehabilitation, care or support services who work with people with a:

  • Spinal cord injury;
  • Moderate to severe brain injury;
  • Amputations;
  • Burns; or
  • Blindness

and are not familiar with the Lifetime Care and Support Scheme.

Workshop Objectives:

Participants will have an increased understanding of:  

  • The Lifetime Care and Support Scheme and the role of the Authority;
  • The eligibility criteria for participation in the Scheme and the application process;
  • Assessment, planning and approval of services in the Scheme.

Workshops for 2009 are scheduled for the following dates: 

  • 25 June: Westmead
  • 22 October: Sydney
