The Authority uses a number of outcome measurements to monitor participant's progress, as well as to determine eligibility in the Scheme.

It is anticipated that the Authority will increase the number of outcomes measurements used in conjunction with specialist services.

Currently, the main measurements used are:

  • FIM and WeeFIMŪ - for all participants
  • Care and Needs Scale - for adults with a brain injury
  • ASIA scale - for participants with a spinal cord injury

FIM and WeeFIMŪ

Information about the FIM and WeeFIMŪ can be accessed on our FIM and WeeFIM page.

Care and Needs Scale (CANS)

The Care and Needs Scale is used to measure the level of support needs by older adolescents and adults with traumatic brain injury (16 years or older).

The CANS is intended to be administered by health professionals with experience working in a rehabilitation setting with people with brain injury.

The Authority holds CANS training each year - for more information about training and workshops check our training and workshops page.
